Superstars, the 70s hit series made a comeback last year. But even the likes of Jamie Baulch, Brian Hooper and champion Du'aine Ladejo were unable to get anywhere near the magic 100 arm dips in a minute achieved by Brian Jacks in June 1980 - where he broke the World Record, as well as the British and European gym test record.

It’s been 23 years since anyone has come near the record. Until now.

Cambridge based weightlifter David Morgan, the 5 times commonwealth champion, this week matched the record.

‘Brian Jacks was a hero of mine when I first started competing, and Superstars was one of the programmes that I _had_ to watch. I regularly set myself targets and Brian’s record was one I admired and wanted to beat’.

When asked if he’d like to appear on BBC’s Superstars, David’s response highlighted his enthusiasm for challenges and achievement, ‘I’d jump at the chance’.
